Celena Shrum

Celena Shrum, MS, is the Toxicology Lead for the Idaho State Police Forensic Services in Pocatello, Idaho, where she has been a dedicated member of the team since 2011. In her current role, she leads the forensic toxicology program, specializing in the analysis of blood and urine samples for the presence of drugs. She also conducts technical reviews of casework, provides expert interpretations of toxicological findings, and frequently testifies in court as an expert witness.

In addition to her casework responsibilities, Celena plays a key role in advancing laboratory capabilities. She oversees the implementation and validation of new instrumentation, methods, and protocols, and is actively involved in the training and mentorship of new toxicologists. Her career spans more than 20 years in laboratory science, with deep expertise in forensic toxicology.

Celena earned both her Bachelor of Science in Microbiology and Master of Science degrees from Idaho State University.

Celena has presented at numerous professional conferences and webinars. Notably, she delivered a Lightning Talk for the American Society of Crime Laboratory Directors (ASCLD) after receiving their 2024 Outstanding Evaluation/Validation Award. In 2015, she was awarded the Ed Rhodes Scholarship by the Northwest Association of Forensic Scientists.

Celena has been an active member of the Society of Forensic Toxicologists (SOFT) since 2016. She is board-certified in Forensic Toxicology as a Diplomate of the American Board of Forensic Toxicology (since 2018), and also holds board certification from the American Board of Criminalistics (since 2015).
